    The Virginia Military Institute proposes to construct an indoor training facility on property located in the City of Lexington, Va. The project will result in permanent impacts to streams in the Maury River basin. This project will have an adverse effect on properties eligible for listing and properties listed in the National Register of Historic Places.

    The applicant proposes to complete the development of a 400-acre parcel into a granite quarry named “Luck Stone Massaponax Quarry.” On July 30, 2002 a Department of the Army permit was issued to Luck Stone Corporation for a proposal to fill 3.97-acres of forested, non-tidal wetlands, 4,484-linear feet of intermittent streams and 130-linear feet of a perennial stream associated with the granite quarry. The Luck Stone Department of the Army permit expired July 22, 2012 prior to all of the permitted impacts to wetland and streams had occurred.

    The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is requesting two modifications to its existing Letter of Permission (LOP-1) and Individual Permit that authorized the original work on this Route 50 project, which is being widened to relieve traffic congestion and improve safety. The LOP-1 was authorized on Nov. 16, 2011, and a later Individual Permit was issued for additional wetland and stream impacts at the Cub Run crossing on Sept. 27, 2012. Public comment period ends May 29, 2013.

  • Finalized EA and FONSI for Gathright Dam Low Flow Agumentation Project

    An Environmental Assessment (EA) was prepared to assess the potential impacts of the Gathright Dam Low Flow Augmentation Project on the Jackson River, Lake Moomaw and surrounding area near Covington, Va. A 30-day public comment period was completed and all comments that were received during that time were addressed and were added to the document. The completed EA and finalized Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) are included as attachment on this public notice.

    Expiration date: 6/7/2013

    The north berth at Pier IX of the Kinder Morgan facility needs to be deepened to -52 feet MLLW in order to accommodate the larger PANAMAX vessels. Dredging is required to achieve the proposed depth of -52 feet MLLW. Public comment period ends June 7.
