Norfolk District Library

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Norfolk District Library is the technical library for the Norfolk District and the only library operating within the North Atlantic Division of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The library has a collection of specialized and technical resources (both print and digital) with an emphasis on scientific and engineering publications.

Mission Statement
To support the USACE mission by providing access to quality resources. Commitment to capturing and sharing knowledge throughout the organization. Pledge to preserving resources that are essential to the USACE mission as well as those that highlight our history. Offering opportunities to enrich the lives of all USACE employees.

Norfolk District Library Collection
The Norfolk District Library has approximately 6,400 books in its collection. Please search the USACE Libraries Catalog to find the material you are looking for.

Interlibrary Loan
Most USACE libraries lend their books to other libraries through OCLC Resource Sharing. We are unable to lend materials directly to individuals outside of USACE. Requests to borrow our material may be submitted through other libraries (for example: public, university) via interlibrary loan.

Map Files
Engineering Map Files, which are housed in the library, contain civil and military project drawings for the district. There are approximately 25 cabinets of these drawings, some of which are originals and date back to the 1700s.

Technical Reports
The Norfolk District Library has a number of technical reports that have been published by or about the District and are tied to the mission and function of the organization. Examples include environmental reports, feasibility studies, navigation reports, general design memorandum, reconnaissance reports, project maps, and many more. To preserve these reports and to provide greater access, the library is currently engaged in an initiative to digitize many of these reports and upload them to the USACE Digital Library.
