    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) has amended an existing permanent danger zone in the waters of the Atlantic Ocean off Wallops Island and Chincoteague Inlet, Virginia. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration, Goddard Space Flight Center, Wallops Flight Facility flight range capabilities have been expanded to accommodate larger classes of orbital rockets. This amendment increases the permanent danger zone to a 30 nautical mile sector and is necessary to protect the public from hazards associated with rocket-launching operations.

  • Proposed Reissuance and Modification of the Norfolk District Regional Permit 22

    The Norfolk District has proposed the reissuance and modification of the Regional Permit 22 (08-RP-22) that is scheduled to expire on Aug. 14, 2013. RP-22 authorizes the activities within the Virginia portion of Lake Gaston. These activities include construction and other actions on piers, docks, boathouses, bulkheads, riptrap, boat slips, channels, aerial powerlines and utility lines. Comment period ends Oct. 26, 2012.

The project involves increased dredging activities, a revised Dredged Material Placement Sequence, as well as two new culverts in Shirley Cove, on the east bank of the James River, located on the southern end of Shirley Plantation in Charles City County, Virginia.
