    HGS, LLC proposes to establish a Virginia Aquatic Resource Trust Fund stream compensatory mitigation site for federal and state permits on 118 acres of agricultural land, east of Fleetwood Drive, west of Route 806, and north of Fusion Way in Fauquier and Prince William Counties, Virginia. Public comment period ends Nov. 16, 2020.

  • Nationwide Permit reissuance request for comment

    On September 15, 2020, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers published in the Federal Register its proposal to reissue the 52 existing nationwide permits (NWPs) and issue five new NWPs. Comments may be sent to Headquarters, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers until November 16, 2020. Division Engineers are authorized to add regional conditions specific to the needs and/or requirements of a particular region or state. Enclosure 1 shows the Norfolk District's proposed regional conditions. We are seeking comments on the proposed regional conditions and on the need for additional regional conditions to help ensure that the adverse environmental effects of activities authorized by the proposed NWPs are no more than minimal, individually and cumulatively. Comments on regional issues relating to the proposed NWPs and proposed regional conditions are due by November 16, 2020.

    Cudd Construction seeks to construct a 139-townhome community in Lynchburg, Virginia. The applicant proposes to discharge fill material into 263 linear feet of intermittent stream channel and 35 square feet of palustrine forested wetlands for the purpose of installing road crossings and lot development. The stream impacts are minimal, and the applicant applied for verification of a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nationwide Permit. There will be an adverse effect to the Blankenship House.

    Swamp Works LLC proposes to establish, design, construct, and operate a compensatory wetland and stream mitigation site to be known as MACHODOC MITIGATION BANK. The mitigation project's purpose is to provide off-site compensatory mitigation for projects that result in unavoidable impacts to wetlands, streams and other waters of the United States. The site is located on parcels 37-143, 37-144 and 46-15 adjacent to the northeast corner of the Erica Road and Cople Highway intersection within the Lower Machodoc Creek-Potomac River watershed in Westmoreland County, Virginia.

    The Virginia Department of Transportation proposes to construct the "Berry Hill Connector Road" on new alignment from the Oak Ridge Farms Road Interchange at Route 58 to Berry Hill Road in Pittsylvania County. The preferred alternative new road is a 2-mile, two-lane divided highway with grading for a future four-lane divided highway and will provide access to Berry Hill Industrial Park. The project has 15 wetland and stream crossings, impacting Childress Creek and its tributaries, as well as tributaries to the Dan River, McGuff Creek and associated wetlands.
