    The city of Norfolk has proposed the mechanical dredging of approximately 55 acres of Mason Creek, from existing depths of 2.3 feet to dredge cut elevations of -4.5 feet to -3.5 feet. Approximately 165,000 cubic yards of dredged material will be removed, loaded onto trucks at two upland transfer sites, and then trucked to an approved upland disposal facility. The primary purpose of the project is to improve water quality. Comment period ends Oct. 28, 2015.

    At 6 a.m. today, operators at Gathright Dam near Covington, Virginia began conducting a pulse release. The pulse will gradually increase and peak at 3,500 cubic feet per second by 9 a.m. The maximum surge will last two hours, begin to gradually decrease at 11 a.m., and return to 240 cfs by 1:30 p.m.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will close the North Landing Bridge on Route 165 for emergency repairs beginning at 9 a.m. today. The bridge will be closed to vehicular and marine traffic as engineers perform the repairs, which are expected to be complete before 5 p.m. today.

    The City of Virginia Beach proposes the widening of a segment of Princess Anne Road (Phase VII) from General Booth Boulevard to Sandbridge Road/Upton Drive from a 2-lane road to a 4-lane road with median and shared multi-use paths on both sides of the road.     Operators at Gathright Dam near Covington, Virginia will conduct a pulse release Wednesday. The pulses will increase levels 3 to 4.5 feet in the Jackson River, and experts advise people who use the river to be aware of the river fluctuations caused by the pulses.
