  • Wetland Hydrology Determinations for the 2013 Monitoring Season

    On March 13, 2013, Regulatory released a public notice regarding preceding precipitation conditions for shallow groundwater well monitoring associated with wetland determinations. Based on analysis of several rainfall recording stations and reference groundwater monitoring wells within the Hampton Roads region, the Norfolk District has determined that antecedent precipitation conditions for shallow groundwater well monitoring associated with wetland determinations has been within or above normal ranges.

    Henderson, Inc. proposes to construct a 10.5 mile long, 10-foot-wide asphalt trail with 3 feet wide graded shoulders on each side. The purpose of the project is to provide a multi-use trail to provide safe, recreational, multi-modal travel opportunities ultimately linking the City of Richmond and the City of Williamsburg. Comment period ends Mar. 12, 2013.

    The city has proposed to construct a regional, dual purpose water quality and flood control best management practice (BMP) called the Richneck Regional Water Quality Retrofit and Flood Control BMP Project. The purpose of the project is to reduce the Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) of nitrogen, phosphorus, and sediment loads; and to reduce property damage from repeated flood events within the Stoney Run watershed.

    The applicant proposes to construct an earthen berm along the southern property boundary of the property known as Curles Neck Farm in order to protect the wetland system from sea level rise. The applicant proposes to convert an onsite borrow pit into a mitigation area and create 3.1 acres of tidal forested wetlands and 0.5 acres of emergent tidal wetlands. Public comment period ends Feb. 4, 2013.

    The City of Danville proposes to construct an industrial park to be known as the “GOK Industrial Park.” The applicant proposes to fill waters of the U.S. for the purpose of providing developable pad sites, access roads and utilities for GOK, a Chinese furniture manufacturing/assembly business in the City of Danville, Va. Public comment period ends Jan. 20, 2013.
