  • 408-NAO-2025-0040 Dominion Terminal Maintenance Dredging Project

    Expiration date: 6/4/2025

    Interested parties are hereby notified that a request for permission to alter a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) federal project pursuant to Section 14 of the Rivers and Harbors Act of 1899, 33 U.S.C. 408 (Section 408) has been received and is under evaluation by the Norfolk District. This Section 408 Request is for the continued maintenance dredging at the Dominion Terminal Associates (DTA) facility on the James River adjacent to the Norfolk Harbor and Channels - Channel Newport News Federal Navigation Project. The permitted depth at the facility is currently -57-feet MLW. The current dredging footprint consists of approximately 26.50 acres of subaqueous, unconsolidated bottom. Dredging will be completed mechanically with placement at an approved upland disposal facility. When capacity is available and pending final authorization, future maintenance cycles may utilize the CIDMMA for dredged material placement. Comments should be received by the close of business on June 4, 2025.
  • NAO-2025-00307 (Rudee Inlet Dredging and Beach Placement, Virginia Beach, Virginia )

    : The City of Virginia Beach requests authorization to perform maintenance dredging of approximately 25.2 acres, by hydraulic methods, of the three (previously permitted) Rudee Inlet navigation channel frameworks (Federal Channel, Outer Deposition Basin, and Lake Wesley Channel), and the beneficial use of dredged materials for beach placement at the (previously permitted) Resort Beach (from 1st – 14th Streets) and/or Croatan Beach. Any material deemed unsuitable for beach placement will be transported via pipeline to the overboard placement area in Lake Rudee. The pipeline will be secured to the bottom utilizing concrete blocks and will have a minimum clearance over the pipeline of 7 feet. The purpose of the project is to provide safe navigational access for recreational and commercial activities, and to provide critical harbor of refuge for vessels traveling enroute up and down the Atlantic Coast. The City of Virginia Beach estimates that approximately 5.1 million cubic yards will be removed from the three Rudee Inlet navigation channel framework projects over the course of ten years.

  • NAO-1993-01934 (NSRC Lambert's Point Yard Pier 6 Berth Deepening, Norfolk, Virginia)

    Norfolk Southern Railway Company is proposing new and future maintenance dredging by mechanical methods to deepen the Pier 6 berthing areas (approximately 33.07 acres) to a maximum depth of -57 feet MLLW to match the depths of the federal navigation channel and to allow more efficient loading and unloading of deeper draft vessels. Comments should be received by close of business on May 16, 2025.

  • NAO-2024-02948 (Sloop Gut Dredging, Accomack County, Virginia)

    Expiration date: 5/9/2025

    The Virginia Port Authority-Rocket Lab requests authorization to dredge the Sloop Gut Channel in Accomack County, VA, to allow for the delivery sequence of overweight rocket components on barges and tug vessels. The Norfolk District will receive written comments on the proposed work until May 9, 2025.

    W F Magann Corporation is proposing to perform new and future maintenance dredging by mechanical methods for the extended waterfront development at the W F Magann East Yard on the Western Branch of the Elizabeth River in Portsmouth, Virginia. Comments should be received by the close of business on March 7, 2025.
