    Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Langley Air Force Base (JBLE-Langley) proposes to eliminate obstructions, abrupt grade changes, open ditches, and standing water within the maintained grassy areas in and near the Langley Air Force Base airfield Clear Zones in Hampton, Virginia. The purpose of the project is to assist in reducing the risk of loss of life and damage to military assets in the event of an aircraft mishap, to ensure consistency with the installations Bird Aircraft Strike Hazard (BASH) plan, and to ensure compliance with Federal Aviation Administration regulations.

    The applicant proposes to mechanically dredge approximately 22,000 cubic yards of material from Indian River Creek. The purpose of the project is to dredge a 20-foot drainage channel to a depth of -4 feet referencing North American Datum of 1988 (NAVD 88) (with a 0.5 foot allowable overdepth, which equates to -4.5 feet NAVD or -3.0 feet MLW) along each of the tributaries in Indian River Creek to improve flow and tidal flushing out to the Chesapeake Bay.

  • Environmental Assessment for Potential Impact Flood Plains in Hampton

    The Air Force is preparing an Environmental Assessment (EA) for dredged material placement from maintenance dredging of the Back River Federal Navigation Channel Project located adjacent to Joint Base Langley-Eustis (JBLE - Langley). This project is necessary to provide access and safe navigation in support of national defense to JBLE-Langley in Hampton, Virginia, from the Chesapeake Bay.

    Chesbay Conservation LLC proposes to establish and operate a wetland compensatory mitigation bank to provide off-site compensatory mitigation for projects that result in unavoidable impacts to wetlands within the specified service area. The proposed mitigation bank site, to be known as the Chesapeake Bay Wetland Mitigation Bank, is comprised of approximately 96 acres of land situated south of John Clayton Memorial Highway (Route 14), west of Fickle Fen Road, and east of Honey Pod Lane in Mathews County, Virginia. Public comment period ends Dec. 10, 2015.
