  • Craney Island Dredged Material Management Area Inflow - Capacity Questionnaire

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Norfolk District (USACE) is requesting users of the Craney Island Dredged Material Management Area (CIDMMA) to participate in an online questionnaire to assist the USACE in evaluating, coordinating, and prioritizing the inflow and placement of dredged material within the CIDMMA for calendar years 2027 through 2032. Stakeholder participation is key to identify dike raising and capacity requirements through 2032.

  • CENAO-WRO (Coastal Seaplane)

    The Proposed Action is for Coastal Seaplanes to establish a commercial seaplane enterprise that will operate in the Elizabeth River and the York River in Virginia under current seaplane policy pursuant to 36 CFR § 328. This regulation requires the commercial operation of seaplanes from federal project waters to obtain written approval of the District Engineer following consultation with and the necessary clearance from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and other appropriate public authorities and affected interests.

    The United States Army Corps of Engineers Norfolk District, has awarded a contract for the Craney Island Office Expansion Project. The project will occur at the Craney Island Project Office location, 4599 River Shore Road, Portsmouth, Virginia 23703.
  • NAO-2002-03818 (Virginia Port Authority- Virginia International Gateway Dredging, Portsmouth, Virginia)

    Expiration date: 6/19/2024

    The Virginia Port Authority (VPA) is proposing to perform new and maintenance dredging to expand the approach channel and berthing areas at its leased facility known as Virginia International Gateway (VIG) on the Elizabeth River in Portsmouth, Virginia to provide safe navigation for the Ultra Large Container Vessels. Comments should be received by the close of business on June 19, 2024.

  • NAO-2022-00788 (NNSY Reconstruct Berths 40 and 41, Portsmouth, Virginia)

    Expiration date: 10/13/2023

    The U.S. Navy is proposing to remove the open-pile wharfs at Berths 40 and 41, located at Norfolk Naval Shipyard, Portsmouth, VA, and reconstruct these facilities as enclosed wharf systems in the same location. Due to the presence of elevated concentrations of Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons (TPH), oil and grease, and other anthropogenic chemical constituents (metals and PCBs), construction will include a variety of measures to (a) control resuspension of contaminated sediments during construction to prevent redeposition within the waterway, (b) remove contaminated sediments by dredging where operationally feasible and (c) isolate contaminated sediments from the aquatic environment with structural means where removal is not feasible. Public comments should be received by the close of business on October 13, 2023.
