    The proposed project includes the dredging, a combination of new dredging and maintenance dredging, of approximately 136 acres (5,905,400 square feet), within the existing 3,960-foot long approach channel and 4,000-foot long turning basin/berthing area of the Virginia International Gateway (VIG) port terminal facility to deepen the existing area to achieve maximum depths of -58 feet MLLW. Public comments should be received by close of business Aug. 28, 2023.

    The Virginia Port Authority proposes to dredge two new turning basins and to construct a stone berth within the Elizabeth River in Portsmouth, Virginia. The dredged material is proposed to be disposed of at the Norfolk Ocean Disposal Site, Weanack Land Reclamation Project and the Craney Island Dredged Material Management.

    The Corps of Engineers is establishing a restricted area in the waters of the Elizabeth River surrounding the Naval Station Norfolk Lambert’s Point Deperming Station in Norfolk, Virginia, as outlined in the Navigation Regulations, (33 C.F.R. §334.296). The regulation is necessary to better protect underwater equipment, personnel, and vessels utilizing the facility by implementing a waterside security program.  The regulation establishes the restricted area waters surrounding the existing facility immediately adjacent to the channel into Norfolk Harbor. EFFECTIVE DATE: August 31, 2022

    Naval Station Norfolk is the homeport of numerous ships and provides operational readiness support to the U.S .Atlantic Fleet with its facilities. The deperming station is located within the waters of the Elizabeth River provides magnetic silencing services for military vessels. The proposed regulation is necessary to better protect underwater equipment, personnel, and vessels utilizing the facility by implementing a waterside security program. The applicant proposes to establish new restricted area in the Navigation Regulations (33 C.F.R. §334.296).

    The applicant, Elizabeth River Crossings, OpCo, LLC is proposing modifications to the Midtown Tunnel construction permit which was originally issued in November 2012 for work in the Elizabeth River in the cities of Norfolk and Portsmouth. These modifications include deeper dredge cuts to remove unsuitable materials, revisions to the location and design of three temporary piers, and the use of timber pilings to support turbidity curtains. Public comment period ends Jan. 31, 2013.
