Millennium Project Revised Environmental Assessment

Published March 12, 2013
Expiration date: 4/12/2013

This revised Environmental Assessment has been prepared to assess the potential impacts of the expansion of Arlington National Cemetery, known as the Millennium Project. The revised EA takes into account comments received on the initial EA.

The Millennium Site will be developed to increase burial space at ANC. Building and site element construction shall be suitable for the environment and complementary to the architectural theme and historical considerations of ANC.

ANC is the lead agency for this National Environmental Policy Act document and National Park Service is a cooperating agency.

The proposed action includes construction of casket burial sections, in-ground sites for ashes of cremated service members, and both columbarium niche courts and niche walls.  The site would include two assembly areas for service participants including Committal Service Shelters. Supporting facilities would include restrooms, storage areas, water fountains, waterlines, sanitary sewer, storm drainage, underground electrical and communications/information systems, stream restoration, landscaping, retaining walls, perimeter fencing, vehicle and pedestrian access roads and walks, and security systems.

If you have any questions or wish to provide comments, please contact Susan Conner of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Norfolk District, at or 757-201-7390.

The public-comment period is 31-days and will close Apr. 12, 2013.
