    NORFOLK, Virginia - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Norfolk District is scheduled to host a virtual “Industry Day” event on April 13 from 12:00-3:30 p.m. for construction contractors interested in the Arlington National Cemetery Southern Expansion (ANCSE) project and Defense Access Roads (DAR) project.

    In 2016, Arlington National Cemetery, or ANC, will open "an additional 27,282 burial opportunities," Patrick K. Hallinan told lawmakers.

    Cemetery’s Welcome Center renovations set to start later this month

    The Norfolk District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, awarded Polu Kai Services, LLC -- a native Hawaiian owned, small disadvantaged business, service-disabled veteran owned business -- with a $4.3 million contract on August 25 to make upgrades to the facility, including its basement space visitor bathrooms, and the electrical, water and fire protection systems.

    Corps studies accessibility for Cemetery

    A team from the Norfolk District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is traveling around and taking notes at Arlington National Cemetery to assess how accessible sections of the 150-year-old facility are for disabled visitors.

    Millennium Project work begins at Arlington National Cemetery

    Crews working for the Norfolk District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers are preparing land designated for the growth of Arlington National Cemetery. The 27-acre Millennium Project adds nearly 30,000 burial and niche spaces to the cemetery, which is running out of room to honor America’s military veterans.

    ARLINGTON, Va. -- Secretary of the Army John McHugh transfers the JFK Eternal Flame back to its permanent location on Oct. 29, 2013, after repair work to the site was completed. The flame underwent a full replacement of gas and airlines, received new digital controls and sensors, as well as a new burner assembly.

    ARLINGTON, Va. – The temporary flame that has been operating at the gravesite of President John F. Kennedy and his family since April 29 was removed today and the new burner at the Eternal Flame has been relit.

    Arlington National Cemetery will dedicate its ninth columbarium court here today. Officials will mark the dedication of Columbarium Court No. 9 with a joint, full-honors committal service for six unclaimed remains of veterans from all branches of military.

    Contractors begin work on JFK Eternal Flame burner

    ARLINGTON, Va. – Contractors began work here yesterday on the burner of the President John F. Kennedy Eternal Flame, which has been lit since 1967. Technicians from Meltech Corp., Inc.; based in Landover, Md.; built an 8-foot temporary fence and installed a temporary flame at one of the most visited sites in Arlington National Cemetery.
  • ARLINGTON, Va. – Contractors are putting the finishing touches on the new 62,820-square-foot Columbarium Court 9 here. The $12.9-million-dollar facility will add 20,292 niche spaces and extend the availability of first inurnment to 2024.

    Court opens up niche space at Arlington

    Work is wrapping up on the new 12.9-million-dollar, 62,820-square-foot Columbarium Court 9, which is slated to be the final columbarium court in this section of the cemetery. The new facility increases the cemetery’s inurnment capacity by 20,296 niche spaces.

    Arlington National Cemetery to share design for Millennium expansion project

    Arlington National Cemetery is interested in sharing information about the new design and obtaining public feedback about the project, and has scheduled an open house and site visit on Saturday, March 16 from 1 to 4 p.m. The open house will begin with a briefing at the Women In Military Service for America Memorial (WIMSA) and then transition to a site visit of three areas associated with the Millennium Project.

    Kennedy Flame to receive upgrades

    – The Norfolk District awarded a Maryland company on Jan. 31 a contract to upgrade the John F. Kennedy eternal flame at Arlington National Cemetery. Meltech Corporation Inc. of Landover, Md., will be responsible for performing the approximately $350,000 upgrade to the flame in early spring.
