    City, USACE host Virginia senator and civic league at proposed reef restoration site

    City of Virginia Beach and Norfolk District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, hosted Virginia Sen. Bill DeSteph, Virginia Marine Resources Commission and Broad Bay Civic League members on a tour of the proposed area for the Lynnhaven River Basin Ecosystem Restoration Project, Phase 2: Reef, Oct. 25 at Broad Bay here.

    The Project would widen the existing undivided two-lane RHT to four-lanes divided with curb and gutter and a raised median. The area of disturbance outside of the existing pavement is 19.86 acres. The Project’s total length is approximately 6,100 feet. Turn lanes would be provided for connecting roadways, streets, and driveways throughout the corridor where a raised median is proposed.

  • Craney Island mosquito spraying scheduled tomorrow

    NORFOLK, Va. — The Norfolk District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, will conduct joint aerial mosquito spraying Wednesday, November 2, over federal properties on Craney Island, adjacent city properties, and the Churchland area in Portsmouth.

    Project description: HCC VRA 1 LLC is proposing to construct a residential subdivision on Peaceful Road in the Great Bridge/ Hickory section of Chesapeake, Virginia. Approximately 1.94 acres of non-tidal wetlands will be impacted.

  • NAO-2014-00474 / VMRC# 22-V1758 (Microsoft Data Center, Clarksville Va.)

    Microsoft proposes to construct a new data center facility to house servers used in cloud-based computing off Commerce Drive in Clarksville, Virginia and will result in the loss of 9.64 acres of wetlands and 1,703 linear feet of stream. Comments on this project should be received by the close of business on 24 November 2022.

    The Norfolk District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, scheduled aerial mosquito treatment tomorrow over the federal property on Craney Island.

    Nansemond Pre-Cast Concrete, Inc. is proposing to expand their existing concrete pipe manufacturing site to increase production of Reinforced Concrete Pipe (RCP) that is manufactured on site. The proposal includes constructing a new manufacturing plant within a 240’ x 160’ building and adding a 12-acre storage yard. All work would occur at 3737 Nansemond Parkway, Suffolk, Virginia.

    NAO-2022-00415 with revised suspense date : Description: The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers - Norfolk District (Corps) proposes the issuance of a 2022 State Programmatic General Permit (SPGP) to the people of the Commonwealth of Virginia. The SPGP authorizes certain pier, aquaculture, shoreline, dredging, and other (PASDO) activities in tidal or non-tidal waters of the United States (WOTUS), including wetlands, within the geographical limits of the Commonwealth of Virginia and under the regulatory jurisdiction of the Corps. The purpose of the SPGP is to reduce duplicative review for activity-specific projects where local, state, and federal regulations overlap regulatory purview. The SPGP will provide streamlined review of permit applications processed by the Corps, the Virginia Marine Resources Commission (VMRC) and/or Local Wetland Boards (LWB), and the Virginia Department of Environmental (VDEQ).

    The Norfolk District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, will conduct a pulse release at Gathright Dam, near Covington, Va., on Wednesday, 12 October 2022, beginning at approximately 6 a.m.

    Jacksons Arm Mitigation, LLC (James Parker) proposes a compensatory stream and wetland mitigation bank (Bank). The purpose of the compensatory mitigation project is to provide off-site compensatory mitigation for projects that result in unavoidable impacts to streams, wetlands and other waters of the United States. The bank is located in Spotsylvania County, VA.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Norfolk District will conduct a pulse release at Gathright Dam, near Covington, Va., on Wednesday, September 21, 2022 beginning at approximately 6 a.m.

    Dominion Energy Virginia proposes to construct a 2,587-megawatt (MW) offshore wind project, known as the Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind (CVOW) Commercial Project, located within the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Virginia, which will include associated infrastructure within the cities of Virginia Beach and Chesapeake, Virginia. Public comments should be received by the close of business on October 15, 2022.
