Virginia Beach renourishment
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -– The Virginia Beach renourishment project is in full-swing as water from the ocean floor is piped through a strainer and onto the Virginia Beach shoreline. This is the first renourishment since the Virginia Beach Hurricane Protection Beach Renourishment Project was completed in 2001. The $143 million storm protection project in 2001 included spanning the original boardwalk, adding pump stations, seawall improvements and sand replenishment. Damage prevention has been estimated at $443 million, according to the Army Corps of Engineers.
