FORT NORFOLK, Va. -- Alicia Farrow, Norfolk District engineer and STEM member, removes baby oysters from the mesh bag. The oysters, grown in Taylor floats off the shorleine of historic Fort Norfolk, are monitored quarterly. Twice a year, after the oysters have grown to one- to 2-inches in length, they are added to the sanctuary reef.
