    The Norfolk District is seeking comments regarding the development of Section 408 Categorical Permission 2 (408-CP-02) - Low Impact Alterations Conducted By Nonfederal Sponsors or Independent Requestors to the Sandbridge Beach Erosion and Hurricane Protection Project in Virginia Beach, Virginia which will provide expedited and streamlined reviews and final decisions for permission to alter the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Sandbridge Beach Erosion Control and Hurricane Protection Project pursuant to Section 14 of the Rivers and Harbors Act of 1899 (33 U.S.C. Section 408).

    The applicant proposes to reduce bank erosion and eliminate sediment loading downstream within the Maury and James Rivers by restoring approximately 400 linear feet of the Maury River through the excavation of a mid-channel bar, discharging the excavated material and imported fill material along 450 feet of the left river bank to create a vegetated bankfull, floodplain bench; installing two rock vanes; sloping the riverbank and establishing a riparian buffer. The project is located in Glasgow, Virginia.

    Virginia Electric and Power Company proposes to stabilize a portion of the shoreline at the Chesapeake Energy Center in Chesapeake, Virginia. The Chesapeake Energy Center is planned for decommissioning in 2014/2015, and the purpose of the project is to stabilize the remainder of the perimeter shoreline with a long term, low maintenance solution that minimizes environmental impacts. Public comment period ends Sept. 4, 2014.
