  • Proposed funded agreement

    This public notice announces the preliminary intent of Norfolk District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to accept and expend funds from the Virginia Department of Transportation to expedite processing of its Department of the Army permit applications, subject to certain limitations. The notice also solicits public comments on acceptance and expenditure of funds contributed by VDOT to expedite the evaluation of Army permit applications for projects with a public purpose.

    Proposed permit modification to the I-66 Main Corridor Improvements Project that was authorized by an individual permit March 29. The revision is to account for changes to unavoidable impacts to waters of the U.S. resulting from project design and construction implementation plan modifications. The project will extend the I-66 corridor about 22.5 miles from the interchange of U.S. Route 29 (Lee Highway) in Gainesville, Prince William County, to the I-495 interchange in Fairfax County. The modification would increase the total unavoidable permanent impacts to 5.182 acres of nontidal wetlands and 5,759 linear feet of streams. To compensate for the additional unavoidable impacts to waters of the U.S., the permittee proposes to purchase credits from approved stream and wetland mitigation banks. The public comment period ends March 19.

    The Norfolk District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers awarded a $23.7 million contract to Miami-based business Continental Heavy Civil Corp. for beach renourishment at the NASA Wallops Island Flight Facility on Virginia’s Eastern Shore.

    The Hampton Roads Connector Partners proposes to expand the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel (HRBT) by widening Route 64 for approximately 9.9 miles from Settlers Landing Road in Hampton to the I-564 interchange in Norfolk, Virginia. The project involves the construction of new bridges over Hampton Roads/lower James River, two new bored tunnels, expansion of the existing portal islands, and widening of the Willoughby Bay trestle-bridges, Bay Avenue bridges, and Oastes Creek bridges. The project will create an eight-lane facility with six consistent use lanes, including two new High Occupancy Toll (HOT) lanes.
