    VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- Ahead of Hurricane Joaquin, waves break on the shore of the Virginia Beach Hurricane Protection project Oct. 1, 2015. The Norfolk District, in partnership with the City of Virginia Beach, completed a beach renourishment project in 2013 that widened the buffer between storm surge and the city’s homes, businesses, and tourist attractions.     Norfolk District prepares response teams, project sites for Hurricane Joaquin

    Ahead of Hurricane Joaquin, the Norfolk District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is taking the following measures to protect the health and safety of Virginians, and prevent flooding and damage at its military and civil work project sites throughout the commonwealth.

    Historic Fort Norfolk reopens ahead of schedule

    Fort Norfolk reopened to the public today, four weeks ahead of schedule, after contractors replaced the roof on the circa-1855 magazine building here.

  • Arlington National Cemetery dedicates columbarium

    Arlington National Cemetery will dedicate its ninth columbarium court here today. Officials will mark the dedication of Columbarium Court No. 9 with a joint, full-honors committal service for six unclaimed remains of veterans from all branches of military.
