SUFFOLK, Va. — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will host their quarterly public meeting regarding restoration efforts at the Former Nansemond Ordnance Depot Thursday.
The Restoration Advisory Board meeting; which will take place at the Courtyard Marriott, 8060 Harbour View Blvd. in Suffolk from 6:15 to 8:15 p.m.; will feature discussions regarding the latest cleanup progress.
Topics planned for the March meeting include:
· MEC Shoreline Fieldwork
· TNT Technical Memo II
· Baseline Ecological Inventory
· Overall project status update
The quarterly RAB meetings serve as a public forum for the USACE’s cleanup progress at the 975-acre defense depot, located near the former Tidewater Community College Portsmouth campus.
The RAB members include stakeholders such as residents; local businesses; local, state, and federal regulators; property owners; Corps personnel and contractors; and other whom are interested in the clean-up.
During the meetings, RAB members ask questions and provide input on all aspects of the restoration process to the interagency project team. All FNOD RAB quarterly meetings are open to the public.
The Environmental Protection Agency placed FNOD on its National Priorities List in 1997. Two years later, the FNOD RAB was established.
The RAB welcomes new members. For more information, please check the project web site: http://www.nao.usace.army.mil/Missions/Environmental/FNOD.aspx
