PORTSMOUTH, Va. – The U.S. Air Force will conduct aerial mosquito spraying at federal properties on Craney Island, adjacent city properties, and parts of the Churchland area here on Tuesday, Sept. 2.

According to Portsmouth city officials, the aerial spraying will take place from approximately 6 p.m. until dusk. A specially designed C-130 Hercules will be flying between 150 and 200 feet over the affected areas, spraying Dibrom concentrate to kill adult mosquitoes.

Beekeepers within the affected spray areas should keep bees covered during spraying operations, and people with known allergies should stay indoors.

If conditions do not allow spraying on Tuesday, Sept. 2, the inclement weather date is Wednesday, Sept. 3.
