NORFOLK, Va. — The Norfolk District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, will conduct a second aerial mosquito spraying Thursday over U.S. Army property at the Craney Island Dredged Material Management Area in Portsmouth, Va.
Crabbe Aviation, LLC will conduct the aerial spraying between 6:30 a.m. and 8:30 p.m., weather permitting.
A joint aerial mosquito spraying between Norfolk District and the city of Portsmouth will be conducted this evening, weather permitting, at federal properties on Craney Island, adjacent city properties and the Churchland area in Portsmouth.
On Thursday, the contractor will use an Air Tractor, a fixed-wing aircraft similar to a dust cropper, to spray a dry granular mosquito larvicide to target developing mosquito larvae.
Beekeepers in the affected areas do not need to take special precautions, as the pesticide used does not affect bees.
If conditions don’t allow spraying Thursday, the inclement weather date is Friday, Aug. 15.
The Portsmouth Mosquito Hotline, 757-393-8666, provides continuous updates on all aerial mosquito spraying in the area.
