NORFOLK – The Norfolk District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers closed the Great Bridge Lock in Chesapeake, Va., due to higher than normal tidal waters infiltrating the lock’s gears.

Lock operations will resume once the waters recede to normal levels and the gears are inspected.
Mariners traveling along the Albemarle and Chesapeake Canal can monitor marine radio channel 13 for updates, or follow the Norfolk District social media pages at www.twitter.com/norfolkdistrict or www.facebook.com/NAOonFB

The locks remain open along the Dismal Swamp Canal for boats that draft less than six feet.
