NORFOLK, Va. — The Norfolk District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, has scheduled an aerial mosquito treatment for Thursday, Sept. 18, over federal property at Craney Island. If weather conditions prevent the treatment that day, the backup date is Friday, Sept. 19.
Eastern Aviation LLC, the district’s contractor, will apply a liquid larvicide using a crop-duster style aircraft to target developing mosquito larvae in the area.
Beekeepers in the surrounding area do not need to cover their hives during spraying operations. The larvicide used does not harm bees.
