SOUTH MILLS, N.C. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will conduct maintenance repair work on the South Mills Bridge, located on the Dismal Swamp Canal, on Tuesday, September 17, 2024. The repairs, which are necessary to address issues identified during routine inspections, are part of the Corps’ ongoing commitment to maintaining safe and reliable infrastructure. A potential secondary repair date is set for Wednesday, September 18, 2024 in the case of inclement weather.
During the repair, the South Mills Bridge will be closed to vehicular traffic from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Commuters are advised to plan accordingly and use alternate routes during this time. This maintenance is crucial to ensuring the long-term functionality and safety of the bridge, which serves as an important connection for local residents and businesses.
The Corps of Engineers appreciates the public’s understanding and patience as we work to complete these repairs swiftly and safely. Updates regarding the closure and potential weather-related impacts will be provided as needed.
