NORFOLK, Va. — The Norfolk District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, has scheduled aerial mosquito treatment on Aug. 23 over federal property on Craney Island.

Eastern Aviation LLC, the district’s contractor, will spray liquid larvicide to target developing mosquito larvae in the area. The treatment will be sprayed by a crop-duster-style aircraft. If weather conditions prevent spraying on Aug. 23, the makeup date will be Aug. 24.

Beekeepers in affected areas do not need to keep bees covered during spraying operations, as the chemical used does not affect bees.

The Portsmouth Mosquito Hotline provides continuous updates on all aerial mosquito spraying in the area and can be reached at 757-393-8666.
