NORFOLK, Va. — Norfolk District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will conduct the season's first aerial-mosquito treatment Friday over federal property at the Craney Island Dredged Material Management Area.
The contractor will use an Air Tractor, a fixed-wing aircraft similar to a dust cropper, to conduct mosquito-larvicide aerial treatment, weather permitting.
Between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., the contractor will spray granular mosquito larvicide to target developing mosquito larvae over the area.
Beekeepers in affected areas do not need to take special precautions, as the chemical used doesn't impact bees.
If conditions don’t allow spraying Friday, the inclement weather date is Saturday.
The Portsmouth Mosquito Hotline provides continuous updates on all aerial mosquito spraying in the area. It can be reached at 757-393-8666.
