NORFOLK, Va. — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Norfolk District will conduct aerial mosquito spraying Saturday over federal property on Craney Island.

Between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., Crabbe Aviation, LLC will use a fixed-wing aircraft to spray liquid mosquito larvicide to target developing mosquito larvae at federal properties on Craney Island.

If conditions don’t allow spraying Saturday, the inclement weather date is Sunday.

Beekeepers in the affected areas do not need to take special precautions as the pesticide used does not affect bees.

The mosquito spraying is part of Norfolk District’s Integrated Pest Management Plan for Craney Island, which uses a contractor and the U.S. Air Force, when available, to manage the mosquito population at Craney Island.

The Portsmouth Mosquito Hotline, 757-393-8666, provides continuous updates on all aerial mosquito spraying in the area.
