NORFOLK, Va. — The Norfolk District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and the city of Portsmouth, Virginia, will conduct joint aerial mosquito spraying tomorrow at federal properties on Craney Island, adjacent city properties and the Churchland area in Portsmouth.

Crabbe Aviation, LLC of Mechanicsville, Virginia, will conduct the aerial spraying between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m. in areas north of state Route 164, weather permitting.

The contractor will spray liquid mosquito larvicide to target developing mosquitoes during the morning, and then will conduct treatment to target adult mosquitoes in the evening.

Beekeepers in the affected areas should keep bees covered during spraying operations, and people with known allergies should stay indoors.

If conditions don’t allow spraying tomorrow, the inclement weather date is Thursday.

The Portsmouth Mosquito Hotline, 757-393-8666, will provide continuous updates on tomorrow's aerial mosquito spraying.
