Norfolk District shines for Elizabeth River restoration
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- Princess Elizabeth presents a plaque to Karin Dridge (right) and Jeff Swallow, geologists from the Norfolk District, at the annual River Stars ceremony here Jan. 23. The district was one of 109 local businesses recognized by the environmental organization for contributions in reducing pollution in the Elizabeth River by 311 million pounds since the Elizabeth River Project began in 1997. The district partnered with a local school and organizations to build a 623-square-foot sanctuary oyster reef in the Elizabeth River – a tidal estuary off the shoreline of historic Fort Norfolk, Va.
