FORT NORFOLK, Va. -- Jeff Swallows, a senior geographer from the Norfolk District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, escorts science students from Virginia Beach’s Seatack Elementary School to the pier next to historic Fort Norfolk. Volunteers from the district partnered with students from Seatack Elementary School in Virginia Beach in 2012 to build an oyster sanctuary along the shores of historic Fort Norfolk. The data compilation by Jessica Grell’s 4th grade students provided a baseline for data collection.
