VIRGINIA BEACH, Va - How do you make an oyster float? Laurie Carroll Sorabella, director of Oyster Reef Keepers of Virginia, Inc., shows local school teachers in Hampton Roads how to assemble a float using eight pieces of PVC. The PVC is assembled using primer and glue where the pieces of PVC are joined together. Once one section is assembled, Sorabella recommends placing your knees in the center and pressing on a flat surface to ensure the float is straight. Employees from Norfolk District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, partnered with Jessica Grell's fourth grade class from Seatack Elementary School in Virginia Beach to create a sanctuary oyster reef along the shores of Norfolk District's property.
