Helen Kuhn, executive manager of the Hoffler Creek Wildlife Preserve in Portsmouth, Va., discusses the environmental and educational benefits of the .2-acre sanctuary oyster reef. The Hoffler Creek Oyster Reef is the first of six sanctuary oyster reefs to be built along the Elizabeth and Lafayette rivers, all part of a multi-year comprehensive environmental mitigation plan accompanying the Corps’ Craney Island Eastward Expansion Project.
