Ava Benson

Mission Support Division chief

Ava L. Benson is the Mission Support Division chief. She has served the federal government for more than 30 years of combined service with the U.S. Navy, Air Force and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Prior to her current assignment, Ms. Benson served as chief, Resource Analysis Branch in the Resource Management Office. She has served as the Norfolk District manpower officer and a program/project manager in various district and regional special assignments, including such complex areas as the Defense Department’s Competitive Sourcing Program.

Benson is a native of Chesapeake, Va. She graduated from Norfolk State University in 1983, where she received an undergraduate degree in Office Administration. She also holds a BS in Business Administration.  She is a graduate of the Department of Army Intern program and the USDA Leadership Development Graduate School. She has served as a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Proponent-Sponsored Engineer Corps Training (PROSPECT) course instructor. 

As the Chief, Mission Support Division, Benson has responsibility for managing and leading the district’s enterprise functions of Human Resources, Information Technology and Logistics, and exercising staff supervision of Equal Employment, Safety and Security. She serves as a principle adviser and consultant to the District Commander on all mission support matters.

Benson is a member of the American Society of Military Comptrollers and the Federally Employed Women.
