Matthew Byrne

Construction and Engineering Division Chief

Matthew (Matt) T. Byrne is the Construction and Engineering Division chief and a native of Massachusetts. He holds a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from the University of Lowell and a Masters of Engineering degree from Old Dominion University. He is a graduate of the Army Management Staff College and is a registered professional engineer in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Byrne has worked for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers since 1978. His work at the Corps includes 20-plus years as a design engineer. His management assignments have included chief, GeoEnvironmental Section, chief, Operations Branch, and deputy chief, Technical Services Division.

As Chief, Engineering and Construction Division, Byrne leads Norfolk District's largest division, where he is responsible for ensuring the Corps meets its customer commitment to provide quality products and services. He also serves as a principle advisor and consultant to the district commander on technical and other key district issues.

Byrne lives in Virginia Beach, Va., with his wife, Beth, a long-time Norfolk District employee and recent retiree. He enjoys outdoor activities, family, friends and woodworking.
