Corps completes Lynnhaven Inlet dredging; shoaling removed, community beaches renourished
The Lynnhaven Inlet Federal Navigation Channel is fully navigable, after a $2 million maintenance dredging project removed critical shoaling conditions exacerbated by Hurricane Sandy in 2012.

Big Beach renourishment complete
Contractors smoothed out the last of the sand on the Virginia Beach, Va., beachfront Aug. 1, completing a beach renourishment cycle that widened the buffer between punishing storm surge and the city’s homes, businesses and tourist attractions.

Corps begins $144K Bennett’s Creek dredging
SUFFOLK, Va. -- The Army Corps of Engineers’ dredge Currituck arrived here Saturday to dredge the federal navigation channel in Bennett’s Creek. Significant shoaling, caused by natural transport and deposit of sediment, made dredging necessary. The natural shoaling was exacerbated by Hurricane Sandy.

Corps completes emergency dredging of Rudee Inlet
Rudee Inlet, a man-made inlet sited along one of Virginia Beach’s most dynamic shorelines, was recently dredged as a result of shoaling from Hurricane Sandy.

Partnership keeps communication/channel open
Local, state and federal officials met with commercial fishermen here on the small island May 8 to discuss the best way to keep the channel and harbor open and safe for all vessel traffic that uses the waterway.
