  • 408-NAO-2026-0043 (River Port LLC Heavy Lift Platform and Dredging)

    Expiration date: 5/20/2026

    Interested parties are hereby notified that a request for permission to alter a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) federal project pursuant to Section 14 of the Rivers and Harbors Act of 1899, 33 U.S.C. 408 (Section 408) has been received and is under evaluation by the Norfolk District. This Section 408 request was submitted by River Port LLC for the River Port Heavy Lift Platform and Dredging Project which will include the construction of a heavy lift platform to the west of existing Pier 14 and two concrete mooring dolphins at the ends of Pier 14 and Pier 15 within the James River and associated new work and maintenance dredging. A channel from the Channel to Newport News Federal Navigation Channel to the lifting platform will be dredged to -50 ft MLW while the area where the lifting platform will be installed will be dredged to a depth of -60 ft MLW. The site will be mechanically dredged, placed into a barge, and transported up the James River for offloading at Shirley Plantation in Charles City County, VA. This project may alter the Channel to Newport News portion of the Norfolk Harbor and Channels Federal Navigation Project. Comments should be received by the close of business on May 20, 2026.
  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to Terminate the Collier County Coastal Storm Risk Management Feasibility Study

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Norfolk District (USACE), is terminating the Collier County Coastal Storm Risk Management (CSRM) Feasibility Study, Collier County, Florida. This includes the preparation of the Integrated Feasibility Report and Environmental Impact Statement previously announced on July 9, 2024.

  • NAO-2006-01588 (BAE Systems Pier 1 Improvement Project, Norfolk, VA)

    BAE systems propose improvements to their existing ship repair facility by extending Pier 1, installation of a fender system, construction of a new bulkhead with a channelward riprap revetment, and the dredging of the berthing area on the Elizabeth River in Norfolk, Virginia.The purpose of this public notice is to solicit comments from the public regarding the work described in this notice. The Norfolk District will receive written comments on the proposed work until May 31, 2026

  • 408-NAO-2025-0035 (Colonna Shipyard Facility Maintenance Dredging Project)

    Interested parties are hereby notified that a request for permission to alter a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) federal project pursuant to Section 14 of the Rivers and Harbors Act of 1899, 33 U.S.C. 408 (Section 408) has been received and is under evaluation by the Norfolk District. This Section 408 request was submitted by Colonna Shipyard, c/o Mr. Mark Essert, Executive Director of Operations, for the combination of all of the existing and previously permitted dredging projects at Colonna Shipyard in Norfolk, VA into a single full yard maintenance dredging permit. This request/permit will include the Drydock #3 dredging, the Travel Lift dredging (West Yard), the Drydock #2 Relocation, Pescara Creek and the Main Yard (Drydock #1, Drydock #2, Pier 5 and the extension to the federal navigation channel. Maintenance dredging would include up to 180,000 CY on an as needed basis from various parts of the project area. Dredged material will be barged to a transfer area for disposal at Shirley Plantation or an alternative approved upland disposal location. This project may alter the Eastern Branch of the Elizabeth River portion of the Norfolk Harbor and Channels Federal Navigation Project (NHC-EBER). Comments should be received by the close of business on May 13, 2026.
  • NAO-2017-1673 (Smith Farm Mitigation Bank, Franklin County, VA)

    Expiration date: 5/28/2026

    The Norfolk District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) received a complete prospectus from Clearwater Mitigation V LLC, proposing the establishment of the Smith Farm Mitigation Bank to offset stream impacts authorized as part of future federal and state permits. The purpose of this notice is to solicit comments and recommendations from the public, federal, state, and local agencies and officials, Indian tribes, and other interested parties concerning the work as described. The proposed compensatory mitigation site (the Bank) is located at 733 Crafts Ford Road, Wirtz in Franklin County, Virginia at 37.052731, -79.711804. The Bank consists of predominantly pasture with non-native vegetation. The Bank is adjacent to Blackwater River and is located within the Roanoke River Basin. The Norfolk District will receive written comments on the application until the close of business May 28, 2026.
