CHESAPEAKE, Va. -- The Norfolk District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will close the Deep Creek Bridge here to traffic early Wednesday morning, July 27, 2016 from 5:30 to 6 a.m.
During that time, contractors will replace a portion of the wood bridge railing that was damaged by a vehicle.
The work, which requires contractors to work above the bridge and from a boat below the bridge, was scheduled to create a minimal impact on traffic as the work requires daylight for safety reasons.
Motorists can expect lengthy delays during this time; an alternate route is advised.
Vehicles traveling south on George Washington Highway in Deep Creek should take I-64 West to Dominion Boulevard/Veteran’s Bridge and then South on Moses Grandy Trail back to George Washington Highway. Vehicles traveling south on Cedar Road/Moses Grandy Trail or north on George Washington Highway and need to cross the Deep Creek Bridge should take Dominion Boulevard/Veteran’s Bridge to I-64 East to George Washington Highway.
In the case of unfavorable weather conditions, contractors will make the repair Thursday, July 28.
