    Dam Neck Danger Zone Modification- The Corps of Engineers is amending an existing permanent danger zone in the waters of the Atlantic Ocean south of the entrance to the Chesapeake Bay off of the coast of Virginia. This amendment identifies the area within the current danger zone boundary where live fire exercises are no longer conducted and no restriction to surface navigation exists. In addition, the amendment removes references to live fire range conditions and safety procedures since shore-to-sea gunnery operations are no longer conducted.

The proposed amendment will identify the area within the current danger zone boundary where live fire exercises are no longer conducted and no restriction to surface navigation exists. In addition, the proposed amendment will remove references to live fire range conditions and safety procedures as shore-to-sea gunnery operations are no longer conducted.

    The Navy proposes to continue the construction of the North Gate, South Gate and perimeter fence project that was originally authorized under a State Program General Permit (SPGP). The majority of the work has already been completed. The applicant proposes additional impacts, which are now beyond the limits of the SPGP. The total impacts for the project include fill in 0.22 acres of forested wetlands and permanent conversion of 1.10 acres of forested wetlands to emergent wetlands. The project is located at NASO Dam Neck Annex in Virginia Beach, Virginia in Redwing Lake and Lake Tecumseh, tributaries to Back Bay.
