This is the second segment (Segment II – approximately 7 miles) of a 75 mile section of I-64 that was evaluated with a Final Environmental Impact Statement conducted in 2013.     The applicant proposes to reduce bank erosion and eliminate sediment loading downstream within the Maury and James Rivers by restoring approximately 400 linear feet of the Maury River through the excavation of a mid-channel bar, discharging the excavated material and imported fill material along 450 feet of the left river bank to create a vegetated bankfull, floodplain bench; installing two rock vanes; sloping the riverbank and establishing a riparian buffer. The project is located in Glasgow, Virginia.

    Gillies Creek Recycling Center is proposing to expand the existing facility by constructing additional storage space. The project will consist of two phases, and it will impact a total of 4.7 acres of forested wetlands, 1,683 linear feet of ephemeral channel, and 0.2 acre of excavated ditch. Impacts will be mitigated for by purchasing 9.4 wetland credits and 723 stream credits.

    The sponsor proposes to establish, design, construct, and operate a compensatory wetland and stream mitigation site to be known as Thompson Place Bank. The purpose of the mitigation project is to provide off-site compensatory mitigation for projects that result in unavoidable impacts to wetlands and streams and other waters of the United States in the Upper New River Basin. The project is located near Blacksburg, Montgomery County, Virginia
