    Craney Island mosquito spraying scheduled for tomorrow

    The Norfolk District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will conduct aerial mosquito spraying tomorrow over federal property on Craney Island. Between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., Crabbe Aviation, LLC will spray liquid mosquito larvicide to target developing mosquito larvae at federal properties on Craney Island.

  • Craney Island Dredged Material Management Area (CIDMMA), also known as Craney Island, is the “Jewel in the Port of Hampton Roads.” Since its construction in 1957, Craney Island’s centralized location provides a low-cost placement option for material dredged from Hampton Roads navigation channels, as well as from private dredging projects.

    Norfolk District schedules 30-minute closure at Deep Creek Bridge Wednesday

    The Norfolk District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will close the Deep Creek Bridge here to traffic early Wednesday morning, July 27, 2016 from 5:30 to 6 a.m. During that time, contractors will replace a portion of the wood bridge railing that was damaged by a vehicle.

    After heavy rainfall, Gathright Dam begins controlled flood release

    The Norfolk District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will began a controlled flood release at Gathright Dam near Covington, Virginia today.
  • City of Richmond, Virginia work crews install high water mark signs around the city marking the height of historic flood waters as part of the High Water Mark Initiative. The  initiative was developed in partnership with Venture Richmond and the Virginia Silver Jackets and includes the Virginia Department of Conservation and recreation, Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation, Virginia Department of Emergency Management, Federal Emergency Management Agency High Water Mark Initiative and Region III, National Weather Service Weather Forecast Office Wakefield, U.S. Geological Survey Water Science Center and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Norfolk District to promote flood awareness within the city.

    Officials announce Gathright Dam pulse release dates

    The Norfolk District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will deviate from Gathright Dam's existing water control plan in order to conduct five pulse releases near Covington, Virginia from July through October 2016.

    Corps plans 6-hour closure to repair North Landing Bridge

    After being struck twice by barges earlier this year, the Norfolk District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers plans on closing the North Landing Bridge for six hours to partially repair the damaged structure.
