Project Scope
This project consists of repairing the NASA Langley Research Center potable water system. The repairs include: installing a new emergency connection to the existing Newport News Waterworks main line on North Armistead Ave.; replacing the existing raw water pumps in B1215 and providing a rental tank system and rental tanks to allow for repairs to the water tower; repairing the existing water tower; installing new advanced water meters; replacing existing sections of deteriorated underground cast iron water piping with new PVC piping from the water distribution system piping to various buildings; and replacing old and unreliable shutoff valves.
Project efforts also include an independent technical review, biddability Constructability operability and environmental review of LaRC’s design, solicitation, award, and construction management of this project.
Norfolk District will provide construction management specification sections to facilitate U.S. Army Corps of Engineers contract management.
Background
The NASA Langley Research Center water supply system is 40 years old, and in need of replacement.
