    Miami's Coastal Resiliency: Your Voice Matters in USACE's Vital Report

    MIAMI, FL - Join the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Norfolk District and Miami-Dade County at the upcoming public meeting on May 2, 2024, from 4 P.M. to 8 P.M. at the Miami-Dade County Main Library Branch in downtown Miami, located at 101 W Flagler St, Miami, FL 33130. This meeting is your opportunity to provide feedback on the crucial Miami-Dade County Back Bay (MDBB) Coastal Storm Risk Management (CSRM) Feasibility Study Integrated Draft Report and Environmental Assessment. The meeting will be open-house style format with a short presentation by both the County and USACE teams at 6 P.M.

    Breaking ground: U.S. Army Corps and Port of Virginia Spearhead Major Atlantic Ocean Channel Deepening

    Armed with shovels in hand, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Norfolk District along with its partners, Virginia Port Authority and City of Virginia Beach broke ground during a ceremony for the commencement of the Atlantic Ocean Channel Phase II on Thursday, April 25, celebrating the commencement of construction for the final Norfolk Harbor Deepening contract along with the upcoming beach nourishment projects at Resort and Croatan Beaches in Virginia Beach.

    A modified U.S. C-130 aircraft, assigned to the 910th Airlift Wing, sprays water simulating a pesticide solution during a field exercise as part of the Department of Defense Aerial Spray Certification Course at the Lee County Mosquito Control District flightline here, Jan. 13, 2016.     JBLE Langley to conduct annual mosquito spraying mission

    The 757th Airlift Squadron assigned to Youngstown Air Reserve Station, Ohio, will conduct an aerial mosquito spray over Langley Air Force Base, Craney Island and the Churchland section of Portsmouth overnight Wednesday, July 26, 2023. In the event of weather or mechanical delays, the mission will take place on Thursday, July 27, 2023. Although no insecticide applications will occur outside the target areas of Langley Air Force Base and Craney Island/Churchland, the Pest Management department recommends that beekeepers adjacent to these areas cover their hives in the evening to help prevent any loss of bees.

    Gathright Dam pulse release scheduled for June 21

    The Norfolk District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, will conduct a pulse release at Gathright Dam, near Covington, Va., June 21, 2023, beginning at approximately 6 a.m. Water releases will gradually increase and peak at 3,500 cubic feet per second by 9 a.m. People should be aware of river fluctuations caused by the pulse.
