6th Grade Meeting
Sixth graders from Northumberland Middle School and the Tangier Combined School discuss sea-level rise and cultural extinctions with representatives from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Virginia Institute of Marine Science and the crew of the Hawaiian canoe Hokule'a. The students are a part of a community solvers program through their school. They are learning about what can be done for the residents of Tangier -- a small island in the middle of the Chesapeake Bay succumbing to sea-level rise, subsidence and erosion.
