Fort Norfolk oyster reef
FORT NORFOLK, Va.-- A 4th grader from Seatack Elementary School in Virginia Beach, Va., takes a closer look at a baby oyster as they are poured into a mesh bag. Students visit the Norfolk District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to measure the water temperature and salinity and measure the growth of baby oysters. The Corps have partnered with the students to raise baby oysters in the Elizabeth River along the shoreline of Norfolk District's property. In the future, oysters will be used to build an oyster reef.
