Major Anthony (Tony) Funkhouser is the Norfolk District deputy commander and and deputy district engineer.

He graduated from the United States Military Academy in 2008 and was commissioned a second lieutenant in the Corps of Engineers.  During his career, he has served as a Platoon Leader, Company Executive Officer, Battalion Assistant Operations Officer, Company Commander, Company Observer Coach/Trainer, Corps Engineer Operations Officer, Joint Operations Officer, Corps Engineer Plans Officer, Battalion Operations Officer, and Brigade Executive Officer.  His service includes two deployments; one in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) and one in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF). 

His combat and operational positions of leadership include service as a Platoon Leader and Executive Officer, 573rd Clearance Company, 2nd Engineer Battalion (Operation Iraqi Freedom), White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico;  Executive Officer, D Co, 31st Engineer Battalion, Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri; Commander, A Co, 326th Brigade Engineer Battalion, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, Fort Campbell, Kentucky; Observer Coach/Trainer and Senior Tactical Analysis Facility Analyst, Raptor Team, Joint Multinational Readiness Center, Hohenfels, Germany; Joint Operations Officer, Special Operations Command-Central, Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar (Operation Enduring Freedom); I Corps Engineer Planner, 14th Brigade Engineer Battalion Operations Officer and 555th Engineer Brigade Executive Officer, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington.

Major Funkhouser earned a bachelor’s degree in Engineering Management from the United States Military Academy and he holds a master’s degree in Engineering Management from Missouri University of Science & Technology.  His military education includes the Engineer Captain’s Career Course and the United States Command and General Staff College.  He is a Project Management Professional.

His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star, three awards of the Meritorious Service Medal, a Joint Service Commendation Medal, two awards of the Army Commendation Medal, and two awards of the Army Achievement Medal.  He has also been awarded the Bronze de Fleury.
