U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to Terminate the Collier County Coastal Storm Risk Management Feasibility Study

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Norfolk District
Published May 1, 2026

Federal Public Notice

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Norfolk District (USACE), is terminating the Collier County Coastal Storm Risk Management (CSRM) Feasibility Study, Collier County, Florida. This includes the preparation of the Integrated Feasibility Report and Environmental Impact Statement previously announced on July 9, 2024.

Alternatives were formulated to address the full study scope in 2023, and the study team proceeded with technical modeling and analysis on that array of alternatives. The time and cost to collect data and perform complex modeling required to properly identify a cost effective, viable solution led the USACE to determine that current federal funding was insufficient to complete the analysis.

The termination of this study is not a reflection of a lack of coastal storm risk in Collier County. Collier County will remain at risk from significant coastal storm events and their potential effects to:

  1. human life, health, and safety;
  2. damage and loss to property and critical infrastructure; and
  3. environmental resources, including vital beach and mangrove habitats.

We encourage local stakeholders and residents to remain informed about coastal storm preparedness and to seek out available resources to enhance community resilience.

Although this feasibility study is ending, Collier County may still pursue opportunities for partnership with the USACE in future feasibility studies under Section 4033 of the Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) of 2007 (Public Law 110-114), the Continuing Authorities Program, or other specific study authorizations.
