NORFOLK, Va. — The Norfolk District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), has scheduled aerial mosquito treatment for Thursday, Aug. 6, over the federal property on Craney Island Dredged Material Management Area (CIDMMA), with a backup date of Friday, Aug. 7.
Eastern Aviation LLC – the USACE contractor – will spray liquid larvicide to target developing mosquito larvae in the treatment area.
The treatment will be applied by a crop-duster style aircraft.
Beekeepers in affected areas do not need to keep bees covered during spraying operations, as the product used specifically targets mosquito larvae and does not affect bees.
The Portsmouth Mosquito Hotline provides continuous updates on all aerial mosquito spraying in the area and can be reached at 757-393-8666.
