NORFOLK, Va. — The Norfolk District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, has scheduled aerial mosquito treatment for Sunday, July 26, over federal property on Craney Island, with a backup date of Monday, July 27 and Tuesday, July 28.
Eastern Aviation LLC – the district’s contractor – will spray liquid larvicide to target developing mosquito larvae in the area.
Targeting developing larvae, the treatment will be sprayed by a crop-duster style aircraft.
Beekeepers in affected areas do not need to keep bees covered during spraying operations, as the chemical used does not affect bees.
The Portsmouth Mosquito Hotline provides continuous updates on all aerial mosquito spraying in the area and can be reached at 757-393-8666.
