    NORFOLK, Va. – A handy operations vessel built during World War II but used in recent decades by U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Norfolk District is getting a much-needed overhaul.

    USACE Norfolk District oyster restoration reaps STEM results

    Norfolk Christian Schools students took part in a science, technology, engineering and mathematics - collectively known as STEM - event held by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Norfolk District Oyster Reef Team here, Nov. 1. The trip to the Norfolk District oyster reef was also designed to give the students a first-hand experience in conservation and restoration of the native mollusk.

    Virginia Beach, Corps to host open house for Lynnhaven Ecosystem Restoration Project

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) and the City of Virginia Beach are hosting an informational meeting about the Lynnhaven River Basin Ecosystem Restoration Project on Wednesday, September 12 from 6 – 7:30 p.m. at the Frank W. Cox High School, 2425 Shorehaven Drive, Virginia Beach.

    Corps to spray for mosquitos at Craney Island Sept. 28

    The Norfolk District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, will conduct aerial mosquito treatment over federal property at the Craney Island Dredged Material Management Area on Friday, Sept. 28th. Crabbe Aviation, LLC, will use an Air Tractor, a fixed-wing aircraft similar to a dust cropper, to conduct a mosquito larvicide aerial treatment; weather permitting.

    The commander of the Norfolk District approved the reissuance and modification of six regional general permits which streamline the authorization of projects that have minimal impact on the aquatic environment.

    After Florence rainfall, USACE cancels Gathright Dam pulse release

    After evaluating the high water flows experienced on the Jackson River during Tropical Storm Florence earlier this week, District water managers made the decision to cancel the pulse release scheduled for Sept. 26 at Gathright Dam.

    The Norfolk District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, will conduct joint aerial mosquito spraying Thursday September 20th 2018, over federal properties on Craney Island, adjacent city properties, and the Churchland area in Portsmouth.
