    The District Commander has received a joint application for Federal and State permits for Key West Cottages located in Chincoteague, Virginia to construct rental cottages, pool, bathhouse. A beach area would include a spartina marsh, bulkhead and oyster reef. The dredged boat basin would include a kayak launch. Additional bulkheads would be located throughout the site to support the construction of cottages and infrastructure. A viewing platform along with other supporting amenities are part of this proposal to support the guest and the resort area. A sunken hull located channelward of the property would also be removed during construction.

    NORFOLK, Va. – James River Federal Navigation Project engineers are ramping up efforts to minimize shoaling effects and improve safe navigation along Central Virginia’s winding watershed. Norfolk District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Cottrell Contracting Corp. commenced maintenance dredging Sunday in the 7.6-mile Dancing Point-Swann Point channel.

    Dam Neck Danger Zone Modification- The Corps of Engineers is amending an existing permanent danger zone in the waters of the Atlantic Ocean south of the entrance to the Chesapeake Bay off of the coast of Virginia. This amendment identifies the area within the current danger zone boundary where live fire exercises are no longer conducted and no restriction to surface navigation exists. In addition, the amendment removes references to live fire range conditions and safety procedures since shore-to-sea gunnery operations are no longer conducted.

The dredge cut and the 2x buffer would impact 0.08 acres of non-vegetated wetlands and 0.09 acres of subaqueous bottom.

    The City of Suffolk, VA, proposes to construct a new roadway segment and other improvements to several intersections along Nansemond Parkway in proximity to Nansemond River High School to enhance safety, improve traffic operations with added capacity, and provide a more robust roadway network to meet existing and future traffic demands. The project would result in 3.15 acres of permanent impacts to non-tidal wetlands associated with Cross Swamp and Star Creek.
