Lake Anna is a 13,000 acre man-made lake located in Louisa, Orange and Spotsylvania counties, in central Virginia. Stretching for 17 miles in length and with a shoreline of over 200 miles, Lake Anna is the second largest lake located entirely in the state of Virginia. High levels of PCB's, combined with relatively high levels of mercury, arsenic, lead, zinc, cadmium, copper, and sulphur, by-products from years of gold and metals mining now contribute to unacceptable water quality and degraded fish and wildlife habitat conditions. The local sponsor for this study is the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality.
